§ 12-24. Manner of operation.

Latest version.
  • (a)

The fire district created in this article will operate under a mutual aid, central station and substation arrangement.

    (b)

St. Martinville and Breaux Bridge are hereby designated as central stations and as such shall keep extra hoses, oxygen and other firefighting and life-saving devices to replace wet, used or damaged equipment assigned to each substation. When replacing equipment, the substation fire chief shall sign a form provided by the committee created in division 2 of this article for such replacement equipment. All substation equipment brought in will be tagged with the date, substation name and the reason equipment was brought in for replacement. The substation fire chief shall notify the central station fire chief that equipment was brought in and replaced.

    (c)

All stations and substations shall operate, primarily, within designated zones as determined by the steering committee and approved by the St. Martin Parish Council. The primary area of operation for each station or substation may be divided in sub-zones when deemed proper and necessary by the steering committee in order to obtain and/or preserve favorable ratings by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana or any other regulatory agency of the state of Louisiana. Notwithstanding the designation of primary areas of operations and/or the division of those areas into sub-zones, any station or substation shall be subject to calls for assistance in any part of St. Martin Parish and shall respond when called. Moreover, nothing herein shall preclude mutual aid accords with any station or fire protection entity within or outside St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.

    (d)

Should the substation fire truck be away from the station for a period of time, said substation will pick up a designated replacement truck at its central station for standby until its own truck returns.
