§ 28-8. Same—Belle River, Pierre Part Bayou and bay.

  • (a)

    No person shall operate a motorboat, motor vessel, or recreational watercraft on waterways of St. Martin Parish in excess of the posted Idle-No-Wake Zone at the location when appropriate official parish signs giving notice thereof are erected, and they shall be effective at all times or at such specific times as may be determined by the parish council. Any location where a sign has been erected reading Idle No-Wake Or No Wake Zone or language with the same or similar meaning the maximum speed shall be an Idle—No-Wake Speed. The No-Wake Zones, in addition to other areas which may be posted, are as follows:

    (1)

    Belle River for a distance of two miles north and two miles south of the LA 70 (Belle River) Bridge.

    (2)

    Belle River Landing for a distance of 100 yards north and 100 yards south of the launch facilities on the Intracoastal Waterway located west of the East Atchafalaya Basin Protection Levee, located within Section 22, Township 13 South, Range 12 East, St. Martin Parish.

    (b)

    The Sheriff of St. Martin Parish, the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are hereby specifically authorized and requested to assist in the enforcement of the provisions of this section.

    (c)

    Any violations of the provisions of this section shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine not exceeding $100.00 plus court costs, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 30 days, or both, at the discretion of the court.
