§ 2-61. Meetings of parish council.

  • (a)

    The council shall meet regularly on the first Tuesday of each month. The regular meeting shall be held at 5:00 p.m. at the parish government's annex located on 301 West Port Street in St. Martinville, Louisiana.

    (b)

    Special meetings may be held on the call of the parish president, the presiding officer of the council, or by a majority of the authorized membership of the council pursuant to such notice as required by state law.

    (c)

    The parish council shall conduct its regular meetings pursuant to an agenda which must be published at least two days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, prior to the date of the meeting. Publication as required by this section, and by section 2-07 of the Home Rule Charter, shall be satisfied by:

    (1)

    Posting a copy of the notice at the parish government annex located at 301 West Port Street in St. Martinville, Louisiana; or by publication of the notice in an official journal of the government; and

    (2)

    Mailing a copy of the notice to any member of the news media who has requested, in writing, such notice.

    (d)

    Notice of any special or emergency meeting shall be published in accordance with law, including, but not limited to, R.S. 42:7, as may from time to time be amended.

    (e)

    The agenda of any regular meeting may be extended upon approval of two-thirds of the members present at a meeting of the parish council. However, the power of the parish council to act at a special or emergency meeting shall be limited, under penalty of nullity, solely and exclusively to the matters specifically enumerated in the call for the meeting.

    (f)

    All meetings of the parish council shall be conducted pursuant to Robert's Rules of Order, Revised.
