§ 6-29. Redemption of impounded animals.

  • (a)

    The owner shall be entitled to resume possession of an impounded animal, upon compliance with this chapter and payment of applicable fees and fines, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.

    (b)

    It is recommended at the time of redemption, the owner may have the redeemed animal micro-chipped at local veterinarian's office and register such chip to assure the timely return of the animal if it happens to get picked up again or is lost or stolen.

    (c)

    The owner of an impounded domestic animal not redeemed within the required five day holding period may, at the discretion of the animal control manager, redeem said animal by complying with "Licensing; failure to license" and "Adoption of impounded animals."

    (d)

    The owner or attendant of an impounded animal will pay an impound fee of $5.00 per day, including partial days, upon redeeming an animal.

    (e)

    The owner of an impounded animal that has bitten, or attacked a person or another animal must pay a $70.00 quarantine fee for the ten day quarantine period and $5.00 per additional day past the quarantine period, including partial days, upon redeeming the animal. Owner's information will be forwarded to law enforcement personnel for their report and any further legal action.

    (f)

    For purposes of this section, one day means each calendar date from the time of impound.

    (g)

    Shelter manager or designee during their absence may waive or reduce fees for the fines under this section for redeeming an animal pursuant to subsection (b) of this section.
