§ 12-56. Membership.
The fire district steering committee shall be composed of the 12 fire chiefs and one alternate per department.
(1)
Each department present can cast one vote per issue at the committee meeting.
(2)
Only the fire chiefs or the alternate can make motions and vote at committee meetings.
(3)
Each department will recommend an alternate to serve on the committee with the fire chief. The parish president must approve the recommended appointments.
(4)
Each department will be responsible to keep their membership to the committee current by providing the names, addresses and phone numbers of new members recommended to serve on the committee.
(5)
No person under 21 years of age shall be appointed to the committee.
(6)
The chief and alternate of each department must be approved by the committee and each can be removed by the committee.
(7)
The committee will, during the months of June of each year, elect from its members a chairperson and vice-chairperson. The term of each such officer shall be for one year.
(8)
Any action taken by the committee shall be by a majority vote of the committee members present. However, when an emergency item is to be added to the agenda, a two-thirds roll call vote of the members present and voting shall be required.
(9)
Regular meetings shall be held in February, May, August, and November. Special meetings, upon appropriate cause by the chairperson, may be held at any time. All regular meetings shall be held on the first Monday of the month.
(10)
Committee meetings will be conducted with an agenda and agenda items must be provided to the coordinator two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting date. The agenda will be placed in the meeting room prior to the start of the meeting for the availability of the general public.
(11)
A quorum for the conduction of any business of the committee is hereby defined as seven departments.
(12)
All regular meetings shall be held at the fire district training center.
